I Believe In Unicorns tells the story of a teenage girl who escapes her obligations to her disabled mother by running away with an older boy. As their new relationship turns emotionally and then physically abusive, she attempts to escape to a fantasy world but ultimately must learn to face her stark reality and reconnect with the life she left behind. 

From Student Academy Award nominated director Leah Meyerhoff (Slamdance Grand Jury Prize winning short Twitch), Independent Spirit Award winning producer Heather Rae (Oscar nominated Frozen River), and Emmy Award winning executive producer Allison Anders (Gas Food Lodging), I Believe In Unicorns stars Natalia Dyer (The Healer), Peter Vack (I Just Want My Pants Back), Toni Meyerhoff (Twitch), Julia Garner (Martha Marcy May Marlene), Joshua Leonard (Humpday) and Amy Seimetz (The Off Hours). 

A Sundance Lab finalist, I Believe In Unicorns is supported by an Emerging Narrative Filmmaker Grant from IFP, fiscal sponsorship from San Francisco Film Society and an All Access Grant from the Tribeca Film Institute. The project was an official selection of the 2012 IFP Narrative Finishing Labs, the Tribeca All Access program, the Film Society of Lincoln Center's Emerging Visions program, and was nominated for a Calvin Klein "Live the Dream" grant at the 2012 Gotham Independent Film Awards.
